Workflow Management, RPA and AI

Inato Ltd has developed two concepts for Workflow Management (WM) based on the Unified Platform for Innovations (UPI). The first concept concerns the end-to-end workflow automation of objects processing, which are present together with the means for their processing in a common digital environment. Such an environment is typical for the work of teams of people in the public or business administration, which process information objects of the document type, or folders with a set of documents.
The processing itself is a procedural sequence of stages, for the implementation of which a specific employee is responsible, including when he is the head of a specialized department. Processing at a given stage can be done automatically if technologically possible. In this case, the responsibility for the execution of the processing is transformed into responsibility for the control of the automatic processing and, if necessary, in assisting its execution in cases of extraordinary cases.

The Smart DOCMAN system has been developed to support this type of WM. Smart DOCMAN is a UPI-based system that provides tools for creating and interpreting workflow descriptions. When the processing of a stage is performed manually, the processed document or document folder is automatically provided to the executor of the stage, together with the description of the stage. So he gets context-sensitive online help. For automatic execution of the stage, Smart DOCMAN supports program implementation of the corresponding processing, which is started automatically.
This organization of WM is applied for servicing the administrative activity in Bulgarian Drug Agency. She received high marks in audits performed by the European Drug Agency and the World Health Organization, thanks to which she received a certificate of work.
Smart DOCMAN provides tools for describing workflow configurations with complex topologies. It is an effective environment for cross border collaboration because it is multi-language and provides traceability of actions performed when working in different time zones.
The implementation of Smart DOCMAN in UPI-environment provides opportunities for its upgrade with the means of emerging technologies such as Robot Process Automation and AI.

The second concept of end-to-end workflow automation concerns processes in a physical environment that is specific to the industry. It processes physical objects, which are presented digitally with their identification, physical parameters, spatial position in the space, stages of processing, and others. The processing itself is performed in stages automatically by machines, manually by people, or mixed by people working with machines. For these machines (including robotic manipulators, robotic transport, and so on) and people, a digital representation is also supported, which is different for different cases, but it always has one mandatory component - the status of a processing machine or a person performing processing.
The variety of processed objects and machines for their processing (or transport) does not allow to define an unified representation of the production environment and to create a universal information system to manage any production processes in it.. Therefore, Inato Ltd has developed a concept for end-to-end industrial workflow automation by assembling WM-systems from UPI-based Workflow Management Tools- WMT.
To date, Inato Ltd has developed a wide range of WMT, among which stand out:
"    Tools for creating and interpreting workflow descriptions
When the executors in stages are human, they are provided with a context-sensitive description of the treatment they perform, together with accompanying instructions on safety, environmental protection, etc.
When the executors in stages are machines, the program for the respective automatic processing, description of reactions in case of incorrect operation, emergency situations, etc. is maintained for them.
"    Means for maintaining the status of machines and/or people performing processing
Thanks to this support, the reactions in case of incorrect operation, emergency situations, and others is ensured. The status is maintained by UPI models of Moor, Mealy or mixed type automata. With a user-friendly interface, this abstract mathematical toolkit is presented in an easy-to-understand technological form.
"    Priority-sequential management of processing
Such a mode of operation is typical of the joint working of humans and machines at the processing stage, which is essentially real-time operation.

This range of WMT is implemented in a UPI-based information system for workflow management in an enterprise for the production of electronic modules.

Inato Ltd is currently expanding its range of WMT in two strongly related areas:
"    both participants (machines and people) in the production environment and the production environment as a whole
The aim is to achieve an effective process of creating a description of the production environment, presented not as a requirement for tuning, but as an explanation/description of the environment. That is, to replace the setup of a UPI-based WM-system with a learning process of that system.
"    Human Robot collaboration
In both directions, the basis for work is the use of means of communication close to natural language, which will be achieved by developing the idea of Root Language in the environment of Semantics Network Based Architecture - SNBA.
